Owners of operational sites, and of sites to be developed, must ensure that such sites pose no significant risks to human health or the environment to comply with regulatory requirements and/or planning conditions.
Structural Soils’ geoenvironmental team can assist clients in managing or mitigating these risks, including asbestos-related risks, for all site types including housing, fuel filling stations, tanneries and landfill sites. Our clients comprise private individuals and all sizes of residential and commercial developers, investors and government bodies.
Structural Soils can support clients through all phases of a development or project. Where involved from an early stage, this may involve pre-acquisition site surveys and investigations to establish potential risk including desk studies, site reconnaissance and preliminary risk assessments. Where risks requiring investigation have been identified, we can design and undertake the necessary exploratory ground investigations, culminating in assistance throughout the development stage (e.g. remediation and validation) to achieve planning conditions sign off.
For small developments or projects, the services needed may be limited to analysing small numbers of soil samples and interpreting the findings for planning condition, waste disposal or material assessment purposes.
We can carry out risk-based brownfield site assessments to avoid unnecessary site remediation, or provide remedial method statements where remediation is required, and undertake the validation of that remediation. We undertake detailed risk assessments for the risks from landfill-type gases, as well as undertaking remedial target methodology (RTM) detailed quantitative risk assessments for risks to groundwater resources.
Our ground engineers are capable of designing and carrying out ground investigation works for both geotechnical and geoenvironmental purposes. Our in-house chemical testing laboratory provides results of the soil, water, gas and vapour analysis to enable us to produce interpretive or factual reports. Our breadth of experience in both the contracting and consultancy sides of contracts, as well as our extensive experience of liaison with regulators, has resulted in us being preferred consultant for many developers.
As part of RSK, a recognised leading environmental consultancy, we are able to offer many complementary services including asbestos surveys, utility surveys, noise and environmental impact assessments, and ecological and archaeological support.
